Las Brisas

Las Brisas is an architect designed Villa in the Mediterranean style, the work of John Thodos, award winning AIA architect residing in Carmel, California. Las Brisas consists of a two story main house and a one story structure housing containing two large bedroom suites located across a 35 foot breezeway. The bedrooms are fully appointed with bath, shower, over bed skylight and a centered, windowed clerestory.

The Main house is separated from the two bedrooms across the tiled and columned breezeway. A flowering, vine covered pergola provides filtered shade. The breezeway is flanked by four, tiled and fountained pools.

The columned entry to the Villa opens onto a panoramic view of Politilly Bight and the mangroves that surround the shoreline. The Villa overlooks the world's second largest barrier reef lying just offshore together with far views West and East of sea and coastline.

The rooftop is accessible and affords views of the island in all directions. Las Brisas is one of the most distinctive residences on the island. The Villa is the antitheses of rustic and was designed, built, and furnished to deliver resort-like amenities, ambience and comfort.

The main house first floor is a large space with a completely open floorplan. The kitchen has a built-in cooktop inset in a tiled island with four, armed barstools. Appliances include refrigerator, wall oven, microwave oven, dishwasher as well as small appliances; food processor, toaster, George Foreman grille, deep fryer, bread maker, coffee maker and more. The kitchen is well stocked with dishware, glassware and a large variety of cookware.

A convenience "Hollywood" bathroom lies just off the main Villa entry double doors. There are three additional full bathrooms; one in each of the bedrooms room and the Master Bedroom suite.

A nine foot picture window faces seaward looking across Politilly Bight to the reef and beyond. The living room is furnished with comfortable lounge chairs, vintage bamboo sofa and side tables arrayed around a large, colorful Gabbeh carpet. Ceiling fans above keep the sitting area refreshingly cool, augmenting the near constant ridgetop breezes. An additional three ceiling fans are located down the center of the first floor space. The dining room is an extension off the living room with six foot tall view windows on two sides and double doors that open out onto the patio that fronts the 15 X 26 foot lounge pool. Cable lighting is controlled via reostat to adjust light levels to your preference and mood. The expandable Italian glass dining room table can accommodate up to 8 diners. The pool patio is shaded by two, eleven foot market umbrellas and furnished with chaise lounges, sling back chairs and side tables. Pool floats are available. There are glass topped, round outdoor tables on each of the side patios to provide morning and afternoon eating or additional lounge areas.

The master Bedroom is on the second floor of the main house and reached via a spiral staircase. A glass block shower cabinet and dual vanity wash basins are inset in the tiled, built-in vanity. The floor is open to the downstairs on two sides, protected by a modern aluminun railing system which adds to the drama of the ten foot ceilings and furthers the feeling of generous open spaces.

Again, large windows provide excellent sea views up and down the coast. Large, original oil paintings are on display in both the main house and two bedrooms. There is a 46" flat screen HDTV set upstairs and a smaller flat screen TV downstairs.

A master suite balcony deck with railing surround and chaise lounges lies atop the dining room overlooking the pool. There is also a master suite sitting area with lounge chairs and ottomans. All beds in the Villa are Queen size and Gabbeh carpets are used throughout the complex. The property has a helpful and discrete watchman/gardener that cares for the pool and grounds. "Tino" lives at the back of the property in a small casita. A Nissan Pathfinder SUV is also available for rent so guests may better explore the island and make easy shopping excursions to the "supermarket" at the intersection entry to French Harbour, some five miles West of the Villa.
